Emergency Response

Besides conducting basic and applied research and evaluating new technologies for search and rescue through quarterly field exercises, the Center for Robot-Assisted Search and Rescue (CRASAR) maintains an emergency response team that keeps the latest validated assets on call for emergency response and offers training in rescue robotics to search and rescue professionals.

The CRASAR response team is the only rescue robot response team in the world; no other team has purchased robots for search and rescue. This is part because this assets are so new that they don't appear on approved equipment lists yet. CRASAR is working with rescue professionals to determine the suitable characteristics, industry to get them to create SAR-specific robots, and federal and state agencies to get these assets approved.

We have trained over 400 emergency responders on the use of the robots so that they can be better informed in their "pull" for these assets and also to help shape what the true needs are.
